Introduction to the Climate-Resilient Fisheries Toolkit

Join this session to learn about the Environmental Defense Fund’s newly released Climate-Resilient Fisheries Toolkit. The Toolkit provides fishing communities and partners with tools and resources to help them achieve their goals of resilient and sustainable fisheries in the face of climate change. It features over 30 tools and resources segmented into six themes: Governance & Policy; Science & Data; Climate-Adaptive Management; Secure Fishing Rights; Livelihoods & Wellbeing; and Oceans Technology Solutions. Learn about the tools in the Toolkit, how they were developed collaboratively with partners around the world, and how they are being used to help advance 5 key principles for climate resilient fisheries.

Sarah Poon

Assoc. Vice President, Fishery Solutions Center, Environmental Defense Fund

Sarah Poon leads Environmental Defense Fund’s Fishery Solutions Center, a multidisciplinary team that provides fisheries science and policy advice, engages stakeholders, and delivers innovative tools and training to champion healthy oceans and support thriving communities, even in the face of climate change. Since she joined EDF in 2011, Sarah has led the development of practitioners’ tools for sustainable fisheries management, provided policy guidance for fishery management planning and design of secure fishing rights programs in Asia and Latin America, and led training and capacity building programs with a broad range of fishery stakeholders. She currently serves on the expert Advisory Board for Mirova’s Sustainable Ocean Fund. Sarah holds a Master of Environmental Science and Management With a Coastal Marine Resources Management specialization from the Bren School at the University of California, Santa Barbara and a B.S. in Aquatic Biology from UCSB.
