Lorena has over nine years of experience in implementing fisheries management tools in collaboration with fishing communities, guided by international standards for sustainable fishing, governance, co-financing, and leadership transfer. She has worked across diverse sectors—coastal communities, government agencies, academia, civil society organizations, and markets—throughout Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

She currently leads the multispecies finfish Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) in Sonora, where she is responsible for monitoring and co-implementing social and environmental work plans. In addition, she oversees the effective implementation of other FIPs supported by COBI in Mexico, including pen shell (Sonora), octopus (Yucatán), and snappers (Campeche). Lorena also leads the monitoring and compliance of co-financing strategies with key stakeholders and manages the leadership transfer process to fishing communities. She is a board member of the FIP Community of Practice.
