Alice Thomas-Smyth is a Marine Conservation Scientist of Nature Positive Oceans on the Seascapes and Science team at WWF US. Alice serves as the Technical Lead for the Science-Based Targets Network (SBTN) Ocean Hub, developing science-based targets for industry to reduce nature-related business risk and halt and reverse biodiversity loss in the oceans. Her work focuses on developing science-based solutions for frameworks and pathways to a Nature-Positive future for the ocean. She also supports the larger Oceans work of WWF by drawing on her expertise in climate change and global fisheries, as well as data methodologies and modeling, where needed.

Before joining WWF, Alice worked at the Environmental Defense Fund in the Oceans Program, focusing on sustainable fishing and climate-resilient systems that are inclusive and benefit communities, utilizing data-driven methods. Alice has a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment and a B.Sc. in Marine Biology from the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
