Marah is a scientist and strategist with over two decades of experience working on ocean conservation and climate initiatives. She has expertise in design thinking and analysis, utilizing these skills to solve complex challenges. Her focus areas include responsible seafood production, climate resilience for coastal communities, sustainable aquaculture, and coral reef conservation. She also specializes in communicating effectively about ocean and climate issues to scientific, philanthropic, and public audiences. Before joining CEA in 2022, Marah was Director of Discovery at the Future of Fish, supporting human-centered approaches to sustainable fisheries and supply chains. She was also a Fellow at the Blue Ocean Institute, where she designed and led their climate change program.

She received her PhD from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and has published widely in academic and popular media. Her first book, Sex in the Sea: Our Intimate Connection with Sex-changing Fish, Romantic Lobsters, Kinky Squid, and Other Salty Erotica of the Deep (St. Martin’s Press), was released in 2016. Whenever possible, Marah is with her family on, in, or under the sea, reconnecting with the mystery and wonder that drives her work.
