The conservation Alliance for seafood solutions is the convenor in the responsible seafood movement.

The Alliance envisions a vibrant responsible seafood movement where people work together to secure the future of seafood production, ensure the health and biodiversity of our blue planet, and defend the economic and social well-being of those who depend on it. We accelerate progress by convening collaborative technical experts and changemakers around the world to advance responsible solutions for seafood.

Our goal is that by 2030, at least 75% of global, commercial seafood production will be environmentally responsible or making verifiable improvements, and safeguards will be in place to ensure social responsibility.

Where We Began

Aliansi ini dibentuk pada tahun 2008 untuk membangun komunikasi dan koordinasi antar organisasi konservasi yang berupaya mempromosikan makanan laut berkelanjutan. Bersama-sama di akhir tahun itu, Aliansi menciptakan Visi Bersama untuk Makanan Laut Berkelanjutan yang akan berfungsi sebagai peta jalan untuk membantu bisnis makanan laut mengembangkan dan menerapkan praktik yang mendukung produksi perikanan dan akuakultur yang ramah lingkungan.

We accomplished a lot since then. Global fishing and aquaculture have started to shift to more sustainable practices and have begun to address the labor rights of seafood workers in sustainability efforts. Plus, an increased focus on the well-being of people working throughout seafood supply chains in recent years has led companies to begin making commitments to social responsibility, and with more fishery improvement projects (FIPs) than ever before, the FIP landscape continues to evolve with new implementers and markets with an increased focus on governance and social issues.

As the challenges facing our oceans and the people who depend on them continued to grow, we recognized the urgent need to scale large-scale change as fast as possible. So, alongside the evolving movement, our membership evolved too.

Today, we represent over 185 organizations across 30 countries, all committed to improving how seafood is produced, sold, and consumed worldwide. Our diverse community of NGOs, businesses, and academics is built on trust and shared ambition to create a better future. Our strength lies not only in numbers, but in the range of perspectives that collectively bring us closer to achieving our shared goals.

Our 2025-2028 Strategy is designed to leverage the unique role of our organization and harness the power of our community by bringing members together more often and in different ways and empowering them to scale and accelerate their impact.

While we donʼt aim to align all members on every issue, we are dedicated to finding mutually beneficial and adaptable solutions. We are committed to diversifying the voices at the table by fostering connections across sectors and stakeholders knowing that each contributes valuable perspectives, strengths, and resources. We strive to provide an accessible platform for sharing knowledge, creating community, and building skills. And above all, we will ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion are prioritized in all initiatives.

Alignment with the UN SDGs

The Alliance’s 2025–2028 Strategic Plan is not just working for responsible seafood — it is helping advance a broader global agenda for sustainable development. There is natural alignment with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), illustrating how seafood sustainability intersects with environmental protection, social justice, economic well‑being, and global partnership.

We continue to foster this alignment in our strategy development and programmatic offerings, and we work with partners who do the same. More details on the pillars of our strategic plan and the aligned SDGs are in the table below:

Our goal is to use this alignment to catalyze broader impact in these key areas:

• Marine health & biodiversity protection: Through partnerships, leadership, and collaboration, CASS advances SDG 14 (Life Below Water) by promoting sustainable fishing, habitat protection, and ecosystem resilience.
• Sustainable seafood as part of global food systems: By focusing on responsible production, transparency, and industry engagement, the Alliance supports SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) via stable, sustainable, and equitable seafood supply.
• Improved livelihoods and equity: With emphasis on inclusive leadership, fair work, and capacity building, CASS furthers SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
• Strong institutions & global cooperation: CASS operates as a robust, inclusive institution, advancing SDG 16 (Strong Institutions) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering cross‑sector collaboration globally.

Central to our collaborative approach is a commitment to continually refine our strategy to best support global frameworks, such as the UN SDGs, with aligned goals for the betterment of the planet and the people who depend on its resources.
