Aloha! We’re excited to offer two free, Alliance-sponsored field trips this year at two of the most unique locations on the Big Island.
Below are the details and descriptions for the field trips taking place on Tuesday afternoon, before the conference programming, and Friday morning, after the conference programming. Please fill out this form to submit your interest and reserve your spot.

Location: Meet at the hotel roundabout for transportation. Blue Ocean Mariculture is a 30-minute drive south.

Description: See a hatchery up close! This behind-the-scenes visit will showcase the full hatchery lifecycle from egg to juvenile fish, covering the first 90 days of growth. Attendees will learn about Blue Ocean Mariculture (BOM) ’s Broodstock program, spawning process, and how they care for our fish during these foundational stages. It’s an in-depth look at the critical land-based operations that support BOM’s ocean-raised product. This will take place at BOM’s Hatchery down in the aquaculture hub at NELHA.

Partner Organization: Hui Aloha Kīholo
Description: The Kīholo State Park Reserve spans over 4,300 acres along 8 miles of the coast. The Hui Aloha Kīholo team will lead us on a guided, service-oriented learning excursion centered on community and conservation. Kīholo Bay has been actively fished for hundreds of years and continues to be a thriving area due to the local efforts for place-based care and collaborative management. The area is often cited as one of the most remarkable on the island.
Our hosts, Hui Aloha Kīholo, are a local Native Hawaiian nonprofit that serves as the cultural and environmental steward for this hub of wildlife, culture, and connection. Their mission is to protect, perpetuate, and enhance the cultural and natural landscape of the Kīholo Bay area.
