Songlin Wang has over 20 years of research and professional experience in advancing the conservation of coastal and marine ecosystems, as well as promoting sustainable seafood production and consumption in China. From 2005 to 2018, he led sustainable seafood and marine conservation initiatives in China with The Nature Conservancy, WWF, the Paulson Institute, and Ocean Outcomes.

In 2017, Songlin founded the Qingdao Marine Conservation Society (QMCS), a lean and professional Chinese environmental non-governmental organization (NGO), where he continues to serve as its Chair. QMCS convenes representatives from fishing and aquaculture communities, civil society, the seafood industry, academia, and government to collaboratively drive fisheries and aquaculture sustainability and to identify, protect, and restore critical coastal and marine habitats in China. Through its China Seafood Sustainability Assessment program, QMCS is also catalyzing a nationwide Responsible Seafood Movement in support of China’s Ecological Civilization goals and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Songlin holds a bachelor’s degree in marine ecology from the Ocean University of China and a master’s degree in environmental management from the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. He is a 2021 Pew Marine Conservation Fellow, a member of Friends of Ocean Action, and currently serves on the Board of the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions.
