Dr. Md. Sazedul Hoque is a Professor and former Chairman of the Department of Fisheries Technology at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU), Bangladesh. Dr. Hoque obtained his PhD. from Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. Before that, he completed a BSc. in Fisheries (Hons) and an MSc. in Fisheries Technology from Bangladesh Agricultural University. His academic research career and international networking were further strengthened by attending about 50 international and national seminars, workshops, and training programs in many Asian, European, and American countries.

Prof. Dr. Hoque’s research interests are in safe seafood (aquaculture and mariculture products), seafood safety and contaminants; sensory, microbial and nutritional quality of seafood products, seafood science and technology, seafood processing and quality control, value-added seafood product development, post-harvest quality and value-chain analysis of fish and fishery products, marine pollution and conservation, occupational health & safety (OSH), livelihood improvement of small-scale/artisanal sea-going fishers, capacity building training, and awareness development of coastal communities concerning climate change and fisheries.

During his academic and research life, Dr. Hoque has published more than 55 articles in international peer-reviewed reputed journals having high impact factors, with a total number of citations of 1789, an h-index of 17, and an i10-index of 32 [on May 15, 2025]. Additionally, he has presented and participated in over 50 international and national conferences, both at home and abroad, receiving recognition for numerous best oral presentation awards.

As Principal Investigator Prof. Dr. Hoque has completed 25 research projects and currently 03 research projects are running that’s are funded by different international agencies like Danish Development Agency-DANDA, Denmark; Lloyd’s Register Foundation-LRF, United Kingdom; World-Bank through the Department of Fisheries (DoF) Bangladesh; Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) and Ocean Conservancy of the United States and International Foundation for Science-IFS, Sweden. In addition, he is also awarded for research grants from national bodies like Grant for Advanced Research in Education (GARE) of the Ministry of Education, Bangladesh; Bangladesh Academy of Science-United States Department of Agriculture BAS-USDA, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council-Program Based Research Grants (BARC-PBRG); University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh; Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) of Bangladesh, special allocation for research from the Honorable Prime Minister of the Peoples Government of Bangladesh; WorldFish; Research and Training Center of PSTU (RTC-PSTU). Dr. Sazedul was an in-country (Bangladesh) host partner of fishSAFE2025: Fishing Safety Intervention Program in Bangladesh, a collaborative project implemented by the FISH Safety Foundation, New Zealand. As a researcher in seafood processing, safety, quality control, and livelihood improvement of coastal and marine small-scale fishers, as well as marine plastic pollution and conservation, including microplastics in seafood, Dr. Hoque is a well-known and recognized scientist with broad international collaboration among academicians, researchers, and development workers globally.
