The Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions (the Alliance) is proud to begin 2023 by welcoming four outstanding new members to the Alliance Board. These leaders from the responsible seafood movement will help shape the future of the organization and its collaborative work with over 130 groups located around the world.
The Alliance Board and Staff are pleased to welcome Kate Barclay (Marine Social Scientist at the University of Technology Sydney), Zacari Edwards (Social Responsibility Director for the International Pole & Line Foundation), Daniel Murphy (consultant focused on human rights and labor standards in wild capture fisheries with deep specialization on forced labor in Thailand’s fishing sector), and Richard Stavis (CEO of Stavis Consulting, LLC and Stakeholder Outreach and Communications and Dialogue Lead at The Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability). These new members collectively represent decades of experience in business engagement and social responsibility and human and labor rights in the seafood sector.
“The newest members of the Alliance Board bring perspectives and lived experiences that span three continents and many areas of expertise, complementing the existing diversity of backgrounds and skill sets already found in our dedicated group. We are very glad to welcome these new colleagues,” shared Alliance Board Chair, Indrani Lutchman, Program Director, FIP Evaluation & External relations at Sustainable Fisheries Partnership.
In 2023, the Alliance plans to release its Vision for Responsible Seafood which presents a summary of the challenges and opportunities facing the responsible seafood movement in the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and other standards. The Vision will function in concert with another upcoming project, Guidelines for Companies, to align the community’s efforts and allow for more efficient implementation and ultimately, increased impact on the water.
To help ensure all the Alliance’s efforts lead to the greatest possible impact, three members of the Alliance Global Hub are demonstrating leadership by stepping up as Annual Sponsors of the Alliance: Aquaculture Stewardship Council, GLOBALG.A.P., and Iberostar Hotels and Resorts. The Alliance is deeply grateful for these groups’ active presence in the Alliance Global Hub and their commitment to building a responsible seafood movement together that we can be proud of.
