Eric Gilman is a fisheries conservation scientist whose research focuses on methods to mitigate and manage fisheries bycatch of at-risk species; inputs for evaluating alternative bycatch management strategies; indicators for the effects of pelagic marine fisheries on ecosystem structure and dynamics; fisheries electronic monitoring systems; and abandoned, lost and discarded fishing gear. He assists fisheries associations and companies to obtain and maintain certification against the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) fisheries standard, and is a member of MSC’s Stakeholder Advisory Council. He is a Senior Principal Scientist of the Fisheries Conservation Research Group and member of The Safina Center’s Fellows Network. He has a PhD from the University of Tasmania School of Geography and Environmental Studies, Australia; MSc from Oregon State University Department of Oceanography, USA; and BA from Wesleyan University, USA.
