Luis Miguel Ormeno

Luis Miguel Ormeno is the Senior Financial Specialist with Future of Fish focused on topics related to sustainable finance, blue economy, innovative markets and financial education. With more than 20 years of professional experience working with non-governmental organizations, research centers, private companies and impact investment funds across Latin America, Mr. Ormeno is an expert in impact finance, sustainable economic development, enterprise competitiveness, low emission business models and responsible value chains. Over the past five years, Mr. Ormeno has supported multilateral and public institutions, like the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Peru’s Financial Corporation for Development (COFIDE), to structure and implement innovative financial programs to fund investments in bio-economy sectors in the Peruvian Amazon. Furthermore, Mr. Ormeno has worked identifying financial mechanisms for mobilizing public-private investments for Fishery Improvement Projects (FIP´s) for giant squid and Mahi Mahi artisanal fisheries in Peru and spiny lobster in Belize. Mr. Ormeno is an expert designing financing mechanisms and incentives that enable marginalized communities access credits to increase their business competitiveness while mitigating and adapting to climate change in order to improve their livelihood conditions and overall resilience. Experience developing financing mechanisms for sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, wild-harvested non timber and timber forest products, fisheries and aquaculture supply chains in Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico as well as mobilizing landscape restoration private investments in Peru, El Salvador and Paraguay. Mr. Ormeno has a degree in economy and an MA in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University, MA, USA. He speaks Spanish and English fluently.
