Mike McDermid

With a background in marine biology and a passion for both food and ocean conservation, Mike McDermid has focused much of his career on understanding the challenges and finding tangible solutions towards sustainable seafood production. Over the past 25 years, Mike has worked in fisheries and aquaculture-related research, education and advocacy, commercial fisheries, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Ocean Wise seafood program. In 2013, he co-founded The Fish Counter, an award-winning sustainable seafood market and restaurant in Vancouver. And in 2016, Mike was named one of the most influential people in the Canadian food industry by the Globe and Mail. Mike rejoined Ocean Wise in 2022 as the Director of Fisheries & Seafood.
