Pablo Obregon

Pablo Obregon is the Tuna Director in Conservation International’s Center for Oceans based in Washington DC, USA. In this role, Pablo leads the strategic development of a range tuna sustainability initiatives, including jurisdictional initiatives that deploy policy and market-based strategies at relevant jurisdictional scales to strengthen the environmental, social, and economic performance of tuna fisheries.
Pablo has been working on ocean sustainability initiatives for over 10 years, particularly around driving sustainability in fisheries through interdisciplinary approaches that effectively bridge the gap between science, policy and business. He has worked on aquaculture and coral restoration projects in the Caribbean; on the marine spatial planning process for the Galapagos Marine Reserve; and on global fisheries bycatch and discard management with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). More recently, he has also worked in partnership with the World Bank to identify impact investment opportunities for tuna fisheries, as well as with private sector market partners to improve the sourcing practices of large retailers. Pablo received a Masters in Environmental Science and Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and is a Latin American Fisheries Fellow.
