The Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions will host its 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting on November 15-18. The event brings together over 400 leaders from NGOs, businesses, and academia in a series of dynamic sessions and workshops. The agenda boasts conversations with experts like heroine of the film, Ghost Fleet, Patima Tungpuchaya, and Whole Foods’ Carrie Brownstein, and will explore the most critical issues facing the seafood movement. Featured topics of discussion include human and labor rights, climate change, equity, aquaculture, industry perspectives, small-scale and improving fishery models, and the future of philanthropic funding.

This year, Virgil Group is sponsoring the meeting’s Student Pass Program aimed at promoting sustainable seafood as a possible career path to graduate students,  specifically individuals who identify with a historically underrepresented group in the sustainable seafood community.

“The long-term future of responsible fisheries management hinges on our ability as a community to educate and integrate the next generation of change-makers,” said Virgil Group Founder and CEO, Celeste Leroux. Virgil Group hosts student interns year-round who support their work in environmental policy and developing software to keep illegally harvested seafood out of trade. “We recognize the value of the Alliance’s Annual Meeting to share fresh, diverse perspectives and are proud to support inclusive efforts to bring new voices to the table.”

GlobalG.A.P., Lusamerica Foods, and Sustainable Fisheries Partnership have all signed on as Supporting Sponsors of the event as well, while the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is the official sponsor of the meeting’s Scholarship Program.

“The Alliance is a free platform for over 100 organizations working together to improve the sustainability and responsibility of seafood supply chains,” said Alliance Executive Director, Mariah Boyle. “The financial support of these event sponsors, as well as our foundation funders and annual sponsors, is critical to ensuring this important collaborative work can continue.”
